  • Lizard formed in Liverpool in 2018.

The members are Noah Ottman (piano, vocals), James Harvey (drums), James Weatherley-Buss (bass) and Jack O’Hanlon (guitar). The four met whilst studying music at the University of Liverpool, and quickly started performing packed-out shows at numerous popular venues in the city.

Lizard’s music leans towards a rock sound, taking inspiration from Franz Ferdinand and David Bowie. However, they are also influenced heavily by the modern jazz of Hiatus Kaiyote and Snarky Puppy, and the production styles of Flying Lotus and Kaytranada. Being a part of the Liverpool music scene has had a lot to answer for, as the city has a thriving jazz scene that has really shaped both the records and the live shows of the band.

In 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group released two singles, ‘Colour Blind’ and ‘Smells Like Love’, both of which were played extensively on radio. ‘Colour Blind’ was made BBC Merseyside presenter Dave Monks’ track of the week, and ‘Smells Like Love’ was picked up by Jermaine Foster to play on his radio show alongside The Killers and Lewis Capaldi.

  • Back Again is the second, and lead single from Lizard’s upcoming debut EP.

Back Again is about someone being interested in you who you have no interest in and do not like, but they don’t leave you alone despite your best efforts to avoid them or shut them down. Maybe you indulged them for a bit too long before giving them a hard no because it was fun? Maybe they’re just creepy? Either way they’re back again for you and they ain’t backing down. They’re back… Again.

This track was recorded and produced entirely by the band, and mastered by Stephen Kerrison (Weird Jungle Collective). Artwork was created by Eden Rain (Instagram: @edenintherain).
